B12 Injection Treatment in Margate, Kent

What is a B12 injection?
B12 injections help replenish your body’s vitamin B12 levels and promote overall energy and wellbeing. B12 injections can benefit individuals with B12 deficiency, fatigue, brain fog or conditions affecting nutrient absorption.

The injection allows the body to absorb B12 without going through the digestive system.

Vitamin B12 deficiency occurs when a lack of vitamin B12 or folate causes the body to produce abnormally large red blood cells that cannot function properly.

Red blood cells carry oxygen around the body using a substance called haemoglobin. B12 shots contain synthetic B12 that is injected into a muscle. They are available by prescription following a consultation with a nurse prescriber.

Having regular B12 injections can help you feel more awake, alert and can improve your sleep.

Treatment is administered by a registered nurse to ensure your safety in a clinical environment.

Are B12 injections painful?
B12 injections are relatively pain free, you may experience a slight pinch of the skin.

Are there any potential side effects with a B12 injection?
Right after you receive the injections, you may see some slight skin irritation at the injection site. Redness and swelling may occur, and the area may be painful for a few hours.

You may also experience some other reactions immediately after the injection is administered. The sudden increase in B12 can cause nausea, dizziness and headaches when first injected into the muscle. The human body is usually quick to adjust, though, so these symptoms should fade soon afterward. B12 is water soluble and excreted in the urine, any excess would not build up in the body but be removed via urine.

Am I candidate?
If you have been on long term medication like omeprazole or lansoprazole, have had a poor diet or are vegan/vegetarian you may benefit from having a course of Vitamin B12 Injections.

The following may increase your risk of developing a vit B12 deficiency:

  • High alcohol
  • Gastritis
  • Celiac disease
  • Older age
  • Crohn’s
  • Vegan/Vegetarian diet
  • Pernicious anaemia
  • GI Surgery
  • Pancreatic insufficiency
  • pylori infection

A full medical consultation and assessment will be carried out and referrals to other health professionals may sometimes be necessary prior to treatment.

How many treatments do I need?
A course of 6 injections at weekly intervals is our suggested treatment regimen, however this can vary between individuals and dependant on how low your B12 levels may have dropped, this would need to be discussed at your consultation and a treatment plan drawn up for you. The effects will be monitored, and intervals adjusted as required.
